In Episode 5 of the Playing At Business podcast we take a look at the threat to retailers from online retail. As a consumer society we have known for around two decades that online retail would eventually take over (to some extent) from physical retail, but as 2018 advances we finally appear to have hit a tipping point whereby the market share of the online retail segment is an immediate existential threat to physical retail. The drip drip of market share erosion has lead us to the point whereby many are questioning whether existing tax and rent regimes can continue without leading to mass store closures.
